Politics and Culture - American Profiles In Radical Independence

“I do not want my house to be walled in on all sides and my windows to be stuffed. I want the cultures of all the lands to be blown about my house as freely as possible. But I refuse to be blown off my feet by any.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi

From Left Field: “What will it take?”

July 20th 2011 12:55
With the rise of events happening around the globe beyond the control of any one individual or groups of individuals a sense of panic has swept over the world populous.

Panic that has eroded the once popular notion that certain parts of the world would never feel the pain that comes with fear, economic uncertainty, hunger and helplessness…

The false notions of security in a “Too Big to Fail” society have all come crashing down in the 21st Century and the citizens of this new world are now forced to take the training wheels off of their newly formed processes of decision making in an unforgiving world.

Fights between liberal and conservative ideology have taken a backseat to the prospect of financial default, economic melt downs and the possibility of an even deeper epidemic of joblessness for many Americans while a large majority are still clinging onto the notion that a solution can be found on one side of the fence without respect to the other.

Over the past decade a revolution of sorts has been happening in the United States of America.

A revolution that didn’t involve any rallies, marches or brandishing of weapons but had just as powerful of an effect on the future direction of the United States of America as any revolution that came before.

The revolution that has been quietly happening in the United States of America is a movement for politics to move towards the middle as opposed to the media belief that extreme’s represent the majority of political thinking.

While the media would like to lead the world public into believing that America is a nation consisting of a red and blue side ready to lay down arms over every social issue regardless of the crumbling infrastructure falling around the feet of American citizens; the truth exists in the growing sense of outrage at both political parties that have built a shared empire between themselves.

An empire that breaks down complex problems affecting millions of Americans and billions of people around the globe into two sides that have proven to ultimately reach the same misguided solutions.

Solutions that have brought us to the worst economic crisis in world history responsible for millions of people around the globe losing their way of life, disappearance of communities and a sense of despair that transcends race, gender, religion, creed, nationality and sexual orientation.

Armed with the facts about the things happening in our homeland many people around the nation have chosen to use the events happening around the globe as an opportunity to participate in campaigns of division rather than seizing the moment to bring the world together.

The moment when solutions are reached for the betterment of all men, women and children regardless of their socio economic class, race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, creed or national origin.

In times of plenty, many people pondered on the question of “What it would take?” for citizens of the country with streets paved with gold to band together in their nation’s darkest hour.

In my lifetime that moment was first witnessed on 9/11 when illusions of security from dangers on the other side of the world came crashing down with the twin towers.

As Americans we met that challenge by banding together as a nation to mourn the thousands of innocent lives lost that day in Pennsylvania, New York City and Washington D.C.

With the deepening economic crisis, the World is now witnessing another test to the resolve of American citizens as we are now being asked to look beyond the things that make us comfortable in cheerleading different sides of the political spectrum in the search for a long term solution that will keep the United States of America viable for decades to come.

A test that we are failing as nation with the rise of intolerance from both sides of the fence…

It is our fear of the unknown and a disappearance of the feeling that lead us to believe that we were invincible that is allowing us to destroy ourselves from within as a society through acts of division by way of race, religion, sexual orientation and political discourse.

For every problem there is a solution waiting to be found…

The kinds of solutions we find will be a reflection on the society we choose to become throughout the rest of the 21st Century.

Major decisions that will affect the future direction of the World are being made and it is up to the people of the United States of America to ensure that these decisions reflect the will of the people.

The second we allow them not to reflect this will is also be the second that we willingly allow the destruction of everything we hold dear to our hearts.
