In an age when pessimism, laziness and group mentality have become the status quo it’s heartwarming to witness moments when the people seize their power.
A power given to them as an inalienable right by the forefathers of the United States of America when the United Constitution and Bill of Rights became the framework for a nation founded on the principles of liberty and freedom.
After decades of watching these rights being taken away; the people decided to stand up against the dangerous precedent that would be created with the signing of the Stop Online Piracy Act and Protect IP Act agendas into law.
A dangerous precedent that has already been created when the government decided that the ability to maintain ownership of property was less important than the needs of the special interests that supported the political endeavors of the men and women that gave them free reign to serve “The Public Interest.”
A dangerous precedent that has already been set in the food industry as standards that should be understood as “Common Sense” have been thrown to the wayside in favor of expediency and driving up profits to the detriment of the health and welfare of consumers around the globe.
A dangerous precedent that continues to be set every time the American public allows government to make an exception on our individual freedom to accomplish blind missions.
Blind missions that rarely end in service to the people but ultimately end up serving the financial interest of politicians, political parties, political action committees, lobbyists, corporations and special interests.
When history looks back at the defeat of SOPA and PIPA the story will be written as a victory for the people against bad legislation.
What the history books will fail to note is the harsh realtiy of bad legislation signed into law that ultimately stripped away the individual rights of American Citizens because the people failed to pay attention.
A failure that came because we were too busy supporting politicians instead of paying attention to the actions they were making on our behalf.
The sleeping Lion has awoken from a deep slumber but it is up to the people of the United States of America to keep the fire burning before this victory becomes a footnote in the greater story of how the American people let their freedom fall to wayside.
