Politics and Culture - American Profiles In Radical Independence

“I do not want my house to be walled in on all sides and my windows to be stuffed. I want the cultures of all the lands to be blown about my house as freely as possible. But I refuse to be blown off my feet by any.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Why The Media Was the Real Loser Of The NC & IN Democratic Primaries

May 7th 2008 15:44
A Cyclone of assumed conventional knowledge swept across radio and airwaves as the Reverend Wright took the stage to defend himself and his Church.

After Wrights display demonstrated everything the media deduced his entire career into with 30 second sound bytes the firestome against everything Barack Obama propheced as a political contendor began.

Even as viewers phoned into news station and exclaimed how they understood his speech on race and understood Obama didn't carry the same beliefs as Wright the news barons continued to hammer away at Obama and deduce an open conversation on race into a stump speech. The theme of White people not votging for Obama anymore became the tune of the day and was backed up with polls that emboldened these cries.

The media claimed he had lost his leads in NC & Indiana and there was no way to recover the working class voters who felt he was an elitist based on his comments denouncing the theory of God & Guns in politics.

Adding fuel to the fire was the classic liberal hero Hillary Clinton stepping into the phone booth and emerging as the defender of the working class. As she threw back her shots of Canadian Whiskey, drank her Steweisers, talked about our need for a strong national defense, (which ironically her husband slashed when he was President) shouted from the rooftops memories of her first home in Scranton Pennsylvania and her love of hunting with Grandpa. Hilldog claimed she would offer the hard working Americans in the heartland a $28.00 relief on a summer of gas hardship and would take the money out of the hands of the greedy Oil Barons because she cared about them and Obama felt he was above them.

With the transformation of Hillary and the Problems Obama faced in poll sbased on his past perfomrances in PA and Ohio it was clear Obama was going lose his double digit lead in NC and win a close race as the black canidate and Hilldog was going to win Indiana big as there aren't too many black people in Indiana.

The way the media got it wrong was that they forgot about the Chicago suburbs in Indiana that actually know Obama and the fact that people can actually think for themeselves and form their own opinions of how a man handles adversities and problems. The Wright flap was overpolled and is not the issue they set it out to be. Obama could not have blown out NC without the strong vote of White people and the ferocity of the black vote. The difference in this race is that Hillary's media problems are creations of her own making.

1.) Assuming she was the eventual canidate fighting for a third term that would bring back the glory days of the 90's based on experience as the first lady

2.) Going Negative Early by calling Obama inexperienced and unfit to be a leader but worthy of being her number 2.

3.) Deducing Obama's experience to speech

4.) Deciding not to fight during the 11 state stretch that caused the gap in the race because these states were unwinable in the Fall and would not matter

5.) Making the decision to splinter the party along sex, race and class lines by losing her originial liberal principals and pandering to her Democratic opponents societal weakness's based on race and the republican parties strengths

6.) Not fighting Obama straight up on the issues in fair and honest debate of the differences between the the 2 canidates and fanning the flames of politics based on the current headlines

7.) Openly lieing to bolster her international experiences

8.) Using the Rudy Big State Strategy

I truly believe that Clinton is a better canidate and person then what has been shown in this campaign. Although I could never personally support any of her causes as I am against mandates on adults and her personal combative form of politics I fele that she could be a good leader in some aspects.

I personally would of relished a straight up debate on the issue of how Hillary Clinton would fix a broken system she is entrenched into against Obama who is running on the spirit of unification, cleaning up DC from distractors like lobbyists that keep things from getting done and a new way of doing politics.

What we got was Hillary who is being run by one of the classic political Czars who felt that the only way for the Democratic Party to win was to run like a Republican and do whatever it takes to win. The people have rejected this style of campaigning this campaign season, but the media still feeds into it and assumes they know what we're thinking. I'm personally tired of the grouping and the fuel on the fire that is causing splinters and divisions but this will contunue to be the case so long as people vote for people by way of ehtnicity, religion and sex. I'm hoping this exercise of looking at the vote totals and the seer diversity Obama gained last night will serve as proof that theories of polls being accurate prognosticators are false and this political race will ultimately come down to people voting for what's in the nations best interest and the power of the people.
